Perseus, Slayer of Medusa Statue
Perseus is one of the oldest and most celebrated heroes in Greek mythology. He slew Medusa, one of the fearsome Gorgons with venomous snakes for hair and whose gaze could turn mortals to stone. The ancient Greek poet Hesiod first recounted the epic tale. His triumph over Medusa became one of the most enduring legends of antiquity, symbolizing the victory of courage and divine favor over chaos.
Perseus embarked on his quest aided by divine gifts: the winged sandals of Hermes so he could fly, the helmet of Hades to render him invisible, an enchanted sickle from Hephaestus, and a reflective shield from Athena so he did not have to look directly at the monster.
Perseus’s slaying of Medusa is a tale that has shaped artistic and cultural imagination for centuries. The story has been depicted in art and literature, from classical vase paintings to Renaissance masterpieces, retelling Perseus’s bravery and the dramatic moment of Medusa’s defeat. This cold cast resin statue has a bronze finish.
